Addressing Ableism

Culturally-Inclusive Prevention Programming

Disabled individuals experience sexual violence at higher rates than non-disabled peers. At the root of this violence is ableism and deeply-rooted social norms and practices that favor non-disabled people.Prevention efforts must address three contexts in efforts to create safer spaces for all: individual attitudes and behaviors, relationship and peer dynamics, and community norms. This training will explore strategies for strengthening inclusive prevention efforts on the individual-, relationship-, and community-levels, and discusses the importance of incorporating anti-ableism work into our prevention practice.
